Ok, so technically it is still summer.  But it really is a good time to start thinking about ways you can reduce your home heating bills for the coming winter.  Here are our ten quick things you can do to get prepared for the cold weather ahead.

1 You're not the only one to get cold, your water heater could use a jacket, too.

"Major heatwave in the midwest." "High heat advisory."  You are starting to see these headlines and that means more air conditioning for your home, more stress on your A/C unit, and more money for the energy used to run it.  Here are a few tips to help minimize those costs and insure that your air conditioning is running efficiently.

The House and Senate may vote soon on bills to repeal recently enacted energy efficiency standards for incandescent light bulbs that are due to take place next year. These standards are huge money savers for Americans with the average household saving $100 to $200 per year, or more, and helping to avoid approximately 100 million tons of global warming pollution per year -- equivalent to the pollution of more than 17 million cars.

Ok, you have been good about changing out your energy wasting incandescents for compact fluorescents the past few years. Got use to a slightly different color and the fact that the dimmable CFL versions don't dim 100%. And you have probably heard about LED's by now, but they are expensive, and even though that is the future of lighting, you are holding off on purchasing those. In the meantime, many people don't realize that there is an intermediary lighting configuration that you may, or may not, be aware of, the GU-24 bulb base, or two-pin twist and lock.

The impact of hangers, be they wooden ones hanging up your pants, the wire ones holding your dry-cleaned shirt or the plastic ones holding the blouse from the department store, can often present huge environmental issues.

It's that time of year when the dandelions start popping up and taking control of your yard.  What do you do?  As a kid, we use to pull them out of the ground, hold one under our chin, and if our chin looked yellow (naturally it would from the reflection of the flower) that meant we liked butter.   But dandelions don't usually bother kids, but some adults, that's another story.  So how do you handle them?
